It’s hard being intersectional. Sections

of my torso rise and fall. Lungs, stomach,

the marrow of a ribcage. It’s hard

being disabled, under whose definition?

says somebody. Phones ring,

coffee machines whirl. Sections

of daily life rise and fall. It’s hard

being a woman, a subject, an object.

Like a keyboard played on or

the soft cushion of a decorative pillow.

Feathers falling in, falling out, seams

rising. It’s hard being Cantonese.

It’s hard being the angry cloud

gracing an otherwise blue sky.
